Home made ice cream for deux

Found a real simple ice cream today- liquid cream, 2 egg yolks, sugar, beat everything with an electric whisk in a glass bowl. Pour everything into a a metal bowl and into the freezer. After an hour take it out to stir. Another hour later stir again.

So I did Matcha ice cream, so delicious, and sooo easy..

Hypnotised

After much looking around for the perfect table lamp, I bought one from Casa. Lighting can make the room feel so different, even Mushu feels it. The lamp is in front of his cage where the study table is, and he seems to be completely absorbed by the light of the lamp, he just sits there looking at it, not moving for hours. I must admit that I am, too! It makes me feel that my apartment has suddenly morphed into...a hotel presidential suite!

Norah Jones anyone?

Postal surprise!

I woke up sleepily at 9am in the morning to collect the letters, and there was a rectangular bubble lined envelope from England.
"Oh? I didn't order anything from England...it seems to be a DVD." Maybe Amazon made a mistake..I once received another DVD free because they made a mistake.

I opened it and to my surprise...a gift from Nic! He had ordered it secretly with Renga as his accomplice.
yay!

The only computer game I've ever been hooked on to! THIS GAME IS AWESOME! It is totally hilarious. You are the manager of the hospital, and patients come in with all sorts of weird diseases. You hire doctors, specialists, researchers, cleaning staff. You insert toilets, sinks, rubbish bins, so that your hospital won't be littered with rubbish.
If you don't have enough toilets, your patients will have a little poo sign above their heads while waiting. You can also blast rats if you spot them running around.
The patients sometimes come in with "bloated head", "slack tongue" etc diseases..the doctor pricks their heads with a pin or cuts off their tongues, and they return to normal.

It is all really very funny! You feel that you really interact with the patients (unlike The Sims or Rollercoaster Tycoon) and everything is in a flurry, you need to treat them fast enough if not they die and a grim reaper collects their soul.

If you want to use cheat codes to get money to build everything easily, the loudspeaker blares "The hospital administration is cheating! The hospital administration is cheating!!" But of course you don't care and continue letting the $ roll.

I'm elated~!!!This game is almost 10 years old, I didn't know we could still find it..thanks Misters!

Je vais bien ne t'en fais pas

Just watched Je vais bien ne t'en fais pas
It's about a girl who comes back from her holidays and finds her twin brother has left home. Her father says that he left without a word because they had a huge row.

The girl looks for her brother's friend to see if she can have any news of him. No news, but the friend gives her a song that her brother wrote for her, named after her, Lili.

She falls into a depression, and almost dies. Suddenly she receives a letter, it's from her brother. Lili gets better and tries to track her brother, her only clue being the village names where the letters are stamped. Her brother always insults her father in the letters, saying that he is happy to be away from his dad. Each time she receives a letter, she reads them to her parents.

A year passes...Lili is still in search of her brother. She suddenly sees her father posting a letter into the letter box at the village where her brother is supposed to be. Her father has been the one writing the letters all along.

Her brother had died in an accident and her parents didn't want her to find out.

This is the mtv of the song that Lili's brother wrote for her in the film and became a hit after the movie was shown. It is by the music group Aaron.
The singer is totally drool-worthy...plus his gruffy intense voice...ompph!!

U Turn(Lili) by Aaron

Lili, take another walk out of your fake world

please put all the drugs out of your hand

you'll see that you can breath without not back up

some much stuff you got to understand

for every step in any walk

any town of any thought

i'll be your guide

for every street of any scene

any place you've never been

i'll be your guide

lili, you know there's still a place for people like us

the same blood runs in every hand

you see its not the wings that makes the angel

just have to move the bats out of your head

for every step in any walk

any town of any thought

i'll be your guide

for every street of any scene

any place you've never been

i'll be your guide

lili, easy as a kiss we'll find an answer

put all your fears back in the shade

don't become a ghost without no colour

cause you're the best paint life ever made

豆花, Making soya beancurd

Now and then I have a craving for tou hua, and it is impossible to get this in France. There are only 2 decent asian grocery shops in Reims. About a year ago I found this instant soya beancurd mix in one of the shops, and I was really very happy(!). However it turned out quite a disappointment.

So I start from scratch and make it from the bean.

I ground the beans with my cold-press juicer/grinder, mixed the ground beans with water, and sieved them twice through muslin cloth(or cotton. I don't know exactly, but I just found some cloth idling around in a cupboard)(This process reminds me of how grandma always makes authentic coconut milk by adding water to the freshly grated coconut and getting the liquid as milk)

That gave me soya bean milk.

From the milk, I tried two recipes, one for tofu and one for touhua. The tofu didn't turn out like the Japanese silken tofu that we like, but a sort of Italian faisselle kind of cottage cheese. It was not too bad, tasted natural and nice.

I tried the second recipe for tou hua, and when I was stirring it, I was afraid that it wouldn't coagulate like it was supposed to be, so I quickly added a 2 tbsp of agar agar powder instead of 1/2 tbsp..in the end I realised that it was supposed to coagulate when it was cooling, not during the warming process.
(Unlike the tofu, which used alcohol vinegar and sea salt to coagulate, formed during the warming process)

Shall remember to add just a tbsp for 2 litres of milk as indicated next time!

Quite hot in France!

It's a pity this Spring is so hot, it's already 23 degrees now!
Bugger, normally the temperature should be 15-18 degrees, and tulips bloom for at least 1 month.
I think the tulips only had their chance for 2 weeks this year.

We had an Easter meal with Nic's grandparents, and as usual his grandmummy decorated the table with Easter decorations in yellow and green. She's really so talented in table dressing!

Then we off we went by car to their orchard to pick ourselves a bouquet of tulips before they all faded. The cherry trees were also fully in bloom, we just sat under the cherry tree, smelling the cherry blooms and apple flowers..while chatting away for 2 hours.

When I was 15 a band senior in RGS bought 3 tulips for another senior, and she spent 21 dollars on those three pathetic yellow stalks of tulips! My reaction then was "(gawk!)Wow that's quite a lot of money for just 3! I'd never spend so much on one stalk of flower!"
The worst thing was, after an hour she was tearing because the tulips totally bloomed to their fullest, the stalks were wilting and the petals falling off! Singapore is just too ridiculously hot for poor tulips.
So now each time I cut a stalk of tulip, I laugh away in my heart because I remember this particular band senior. Especially when I don't have very nice memories of band seniors, I laugh even louder. hmph!

Here's my bouquet!
Next will be the peonies and the Irises, can't wait!
